Nusa Penida (Balinese: ᬦᬸᬲᬧᭂᬦᬶᬤ, romanized: nusa pĕnida) is an island located near the southeastern Indonesian island of Bali and a district of Klungkung Regency that includes the neighbouring small island of Nusa Lembongan and twelve even smaller islands. The Badung Strait separates the island and Bali. The interior of Nusa Penida is hilly with a maximum altitude of 524 metres. It is drier than the nearby island of Bali. It is one of the major tourist attractions among the three Nusa islands.

There are thirteen small islands nearby – Nusa LembonganNusa Ceningan and eleven even smaller – which are included within the administrative district (kecamatan), which has the same name as the main island. The district had a population of 45,110 at the 2010 census, covering 202.84 km2,  and the official estimate as at mid 2023 was 63,900.

Nusa Penida, an island in Bali province, Indonesia

Bali's persistent sunshine has to start somewhere. Why not ease into a day of swimming, surfing, or snorkeling with a gentle sunrise on a quiet beach? Here on Nusa Penida—an island in Indonesia's Bali province that's many times smaller than the main island—you might even get a nice swath of seashore to yourself. Plus you'll be getting a sneak preview of the sunny day to come, since Nusa Penida lies east of most of Bali's tourism hotspots.
