Laomei Green Reef (老梅綠石槽)
Located on the North Shore of Taiwan in Shimen District, Laomei Green Reef is growing in popularity ever since it has been selected by CNN as one of Taiwan’s eight wonders (source). This incredible photogenic location is well worth the visit but the phenomenon is only visible from March to May, after the Northeast Mansoon.

Ages ago, the volcanic eruption of Datun Mountain formed a volcanic reef by the seashore. Centuries of sea erosion has left neat trenches in the reef, and every year come April and May, the reef is covered in green algae, forming the bizarre but spectacular natural wonder that is Laomei Green Algal Reef. Each year, countless photographers are attracted here. At dawn and dusk, the sea would reflect a different color of light, giving the beautiful panorama almost a dream-like quality.

Laomei Green Reef in Taiwan
As the tide drops and the fog rises, these ruffled ridges of hardened lava take on an unearthly look. But the effect is as ephemeral as the mists that slither through the stones: The algae that grows here each spring, putting the green in Laomei Green Reef, dies off in early summer. So if you want to catch this unique spectacle on Taiwan's northern tip, plan your visit between March and May, and keep an eye on the tidal charts.

Located about 29 kilometers along the No. 2 Provincial Highway is Shimen Cave. This is not a cave at all, but a stone arch formed by erosion.
The arch was formed by tidal erosion before the land was pushed upward.
