"Rivers of Babylon" is a Rastafari song written and recorded by Brent Dowe and Trevor McNaughton of the Jamaican reggae group The Melodians in 1970. The lyrics are adapted from the texts of Psalms 19, and 137 in the Hebrew Bible. The Melodians' original version of the song appeared on the soundtrack album for the 1972 movie The Harder They Come, which made it internationally known.

 

"Rivers of Babylon"은 1970년 자메이카 레게 그룹 The Melodians의 Brent Dowe와 Trevor McNaughton이 작곡하고 녹음한 Rastafari 노래이다. 가사는 히브리어 성경의 시편 19편과 137편의 본문을 각색한 것이다. The Melodians의 원래 버전의 노래는 1972년 영화 "The Harder They Come(어려우면 어려울 수록)"의 사운드트랙 앨범에 수록되어 국제적으로 알려지게 되었다.

 

 

The song was re-popularized in Europe by the 1978 Boney M. cover version, which was awarded a platinum disc and is one of the top-ten, all-time best-selling singles in the UK. The B-side of the single, "Brown Girl in the Ring", also became a hit.

 

 

이 노래는 1978년 Boney M. 커버 버전으로 유럽에서 다시 인기를 얻었다. 이 버전은 플래티넘 디스크를 수상했으며 영국에서 가장 많이 팔린 10위권 싱글 중 하나이다. B면의 싱글 "Brown Girl in the Ring"도 히트작이 되었다.

Boney M.'s release stayed at the no. 1 position in the UK for five weeks and was also the group's only significant US chart entry, peaking at no. 30 in the Pop charts. Boney M.'s version of the song remains one of the top ten all-time best-selling singles in the UK, where it is one of only seven songs to have sold over 2 million copies
