Loch Lomond (/ˈlɒx ˈloʊmənd/; Scottish Gaelic: Loch Laomainn - 'Lake of the Elms') is a freshwater Scottish loch which crosses the Highland Boundary Fault, often considered the boundary between the lowlands of Central Scotland and the Highlands.
Traditionally forming part of the boundary between the counties of Stirlingshire and Dunbartonshire,
Loch Lomond is split between the council areas of Stirling, Argyll and Bute and West Dunbartonshire. Its southern shores are about 23 kilometres (14 mi) northwest of the centre of Glasgow, Scotland's largest city.
The Loch forms part of the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park which was established in 2002

Loch Lomond
*
Loch Lomond was originally Loch Leamhain, named from the river that flows from it (it means 'elm river'). It derived its modern name from Ben Lomond, in Gaelic Beinn Laomainn 'beacon mountain'.
*
Loch Lomond is home to breath-taking scenery, craggy hills, steep mountain tops, sparkling lochs and beautiful villages with old brick work and charming locals.
*
"Loch Lomond" tells the story of two Scottish soldiers who were so imprisoned. One of them was to be executed, while the other was to be set free. According to Celtic legend if someone dies in a foreign land, his spirit will travel to his homeland by "the low road" - the route for the souls of the dead.

In this song, the doomed soldier is comforting the soldier who will be set free. He tells them that “you'll take the high road and I'll take the low road, and I'll be in Scotland before ye”. As well as this, he recalls a life full of love and happiness.

The Jacobite rising of 1745, also known as the Forty-five Rebellion or simply the '45 (Scottish Gaelic: Bliadhna Theàrlaich [ˈpliən̪ˠə ˈhjaːrˠl̪ˠɪç], "The Year of Charles"),
was an attempt by Charles Edward Stuart to regain the British throne for his father, James Francis Edward Stuart. It took place during the War of the Austrian Succession, when the bulk of the British Army was fighting in mainland Europe, and proved to be the last in a series of revolts that began in 1689, with major outbreaks in 1708, 1715 and 1719.
Charles launched the rebellion on 19 August 1745 at Glenfinnan in the Scottish Highlands, capturing Edinburgh and winning the Battle of Prestonpans in September.
At a council in October, the Scots agreed to invade England after Charles assured them of substantial support from English Jacobites and a simultaneous French landing in Southern England. On that basis, the Jacobite army entered England in early November, reaching Derby on 4 December, where they decided to turn back.
Similar discussions had taken place at Carlisle, Preston and Manchester and many felt they had gone too far already. The invasion route had been selected to cross areas considered strongly Jacobite but the promised English support failed to materialise; they were now outnumbered and in danger of having their retreat cut off. The decision was supported by the vast majority but caused an irretrievable split between Charles and his Scots supporters. Despite victory at Falkirk Muir in January 1746, the Battle of Culloden in April ended the Rebellion and significant backing for the Stuart cause. Charles with a price on his head escaped to permanent exile in France , but was unable to win support for another attempt, and died in Rome in 1788.

"The Bonnie Banks o' Loch Lomond", or simply "Loch Lomond" for short, is a well-known traditional Scottish song (Roud No. 9598) first published in 1841 in Vocal Melodies of Scotland.
The song prominently features Loch Lomond, the largest Scottish loch, located between the council areas of West Dunbartonshire, Stirling and Argyll and Bute. In the Scots language, "bonnie" means "pretty, often in reference to a female.
The original composer is unknown, as is definitive information on any traditional lyrics.

Lyrics
By yon bonnie banks and by yon bonnie braes,
Where the sun shines bright on Loch Lomon'
Where me and my true love will never meet again,
On the bonnie, bonnie banks o' Loch Lomon'
O ye'll take the high road and I'll take the low,
An' I'll be in Scotland afore ye
For me and my true love will never meet again
On the bonnie, bonnie banks o' Loch Lomon'
'Twas there that we parted in yon shady glen,
On the steep, steep side o' Ben Lomon'
Where in the purple hue the Hieland hills we view,
An' the moon comin' out in the gloamin'
O ye'll take the high road and I'll take the low,
An' I'll be in Scotland afore ye
For me and my true love will never meet again
On the bonnie, bonnie banks o' Loch Lomon'
The wee birdies sing and the wild flow'rs spring,
And in sunshine the waters are sleepin'
But the broken heart it kens nae second spring again,
Tho' the waefu' may cease frae their greetin'
O ye'll take the high road and I'll take the low,
An' I'll be in Scotland afore ye
For me and my true love will never meet again
On the bonnie, bonnie banks o' Loch Lomon'
