The Ah-Shi-Sle-Pah Wilderness

is located in northwestern New Mexico and is a badland area of rolling water-carved clay hills.

 

Ah-Shi-Sle-Pah Wilderness is located in San Juan County, New Mexico, between Chaco Canyon and the De-Na-Zin Wilderness. Its name is a phonetic transliteration of Navajo "áshįįh łibá" meaning "salt, it is grey (grey salt)". The wilderness has multicolored badlands, sandstone hoodoos, petrified wood and dinosaur bones, similar to those found in the nearby Bisti Badlands and De-Na-Zin Wilderness.

Valley of Dreams,

with the most famous Alien Throne rocks formation, is part of the Ah-Shi-Sle-Pah Wilderness Study Area near Nageezi and Farmington, northwestern New Mexico badlands. These rock formations were formed over millennia and are late Cretaceous period.

Alien Throne is a hoodoo located at the north end of the Valley of Dreams in New Mexico near the Ah-Shi-Sle-Pah Wilderness. Part of the hike is through Navajo tribal lands. Alien Thone is not in the Bisti Badlands/De-Na-Zin Wilderness although that area does have a lot of similar features to the Valley of Dreams.4 Dec 2023
