기러기떼 기러기럭 어디서 왔니

북쪽에서 날아오다 북한산에 들렸니

북한산 단풍 한창 이겠지~

요담엘랑  단풍잎을 입에물고 오너라

 

 

북녘 하늘 나는 기러기~

 

1950년대 후반, 가난한 시절

초전 국민학교 4학년 때 이던가?

 

하루에 한두번이나 다닐까,

시골버스는 길가에 서서 기다리는 사람들을  언제  어디서나 정차하여 태우고 가던  시절이다.

 

먼지구름 뭉개 뭉개 풍기며  달리는 시골버스를 타고 털털거리는 자갈길 비포장 도로를 하루 걸려 대구를 처음 가 보았으니

그것도 두째 형님이 대구에 사는 덕분이었다.

 

버스가 달리면  창 밖으로 스쳐지나가는 풍경이  모두  뒤로 뻘뻘 휙휙 가버리는 상황이 벌어지는것은  처음 차라는 걸 타본 촌 아이가 경험해 보는 신기한 광경이었다. 도로변을 걷는 사람도   지게를 지고 가는 사람도, 머리에 보퉁이를 이고 가는 아지매들도 모두가 뒤로 뻘뻘 걸어가는 모습~  들판에서 일하는 촌 사람들, 소 달구지, 산천 풍경 모두가 휙휙 뒤로 스쳐 지나가는 모습들이니~~... 

 

백열등 스위치를 알려 주면서 형수가 

'촌 사람은 전기불(백열등) 끄라면,  입으로 후후 분다.'~던 얘기가 한평생 잊혀지지 않는 추억담...  

호롱불 끄듯이 입으로 후~후~~~...

촌놈의 정의를 처음으로 터득했다고나 할까.

 

사실 나의 시골 마을은 5.16 혁명후 한참 뒤에  '전국의 전기화 정책'에 따라 전기불이 들어 왔으니 그게 1970년대 초반이고

포장 도로는 한 군데도 없었던  성주 고을에 포장도로가 처음 생긴 것도 그 즈음이었을 것이다.

북한산 단풍 한창이겠지~

 

아득히 머나멀 북녘, 도성 한양은 어떨까,

북한산 단풍을 상상하면서 미지의 세계에 대한 동정의 향수를 실어 보내던 추억어린 선율이다.

 

그로 부터 어언 30년 세월이 흘러간 1980년대 후반,

별고을 시골아이의 서울 생활은

가을이면 단풍이 곱게 물드는

비봉, 보현봉  북한산자락,

서울 종로구 구기동~

 

30년 세월을 거슬러 돌아간 소년은 옛 시절을 그리며

그리운 북녘하늘 나는 기러기에게 , 북한산 단풍 한창이겠지~ 추억을 묻는다.

 

소식이 궁금하던

북한산 단풍, 단풍이 한창인

소년의  뒷동산 북한산(비봉, 보현봉)을 오른다.

"Massa's in de Cold Ground" is a minstrel song by  by Stephen Foster (1826-1864) published by Firth, Pond & Co. of New York in 1852. 

 

 It was one of only four songs Foster published in 1852.  It sold hundreds of copies. Foster received only a 2 cent royalty on each copy sold, but the song earned him US$900 within five years of its publication.

 

The song is written in D major to 4/4 time. An initial phrase is repeated five times, beginning every line except one. The phrase ends with a octave leap upwards in the melody. "Massa" is a slow, sad song in dialect written for the minstrel stage.

 

The song tells of slaves weeping at the grave of their deceased European-American master. After the American Civil War, another 'Cold' was entered in the title, the title then becoming, "Massa's in de Cold, Cold Ground".

When the novel Uncle Tom's Cabin was first performed as a dramatic adaptation in November 1852 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (Foster's home town), "Massa's in de Cold Ground" and two other Forster melodies were inserted into the production.
